To learn is to gain Knowledge or skill i.e information by studying, from experience and from being taught. Most importantly, the application of the knowledge (information) acquired results in a relatively permanent change in behaviour. Learning is a process. This implies that learning is an on-going activity. It is always the bridge between ignorance and knowledge. In fact, it is a life time activity!
A motivational speaker once said, “The day a man stops to think (learn), he will start to stink (lose value)”. A recent study conducted by the University of Southern California on ageing found two distinct psychological reasons why people die. First, they stop reading. That is, they stop learning and growing. Second, they stop dreaming (aiming). What you want to do and what you can do is limited only by what you can learn. Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one through learning process. Students’ progress in school cannot be possible without active and passive daily learning process. Whatever you learn today, learn it better tomorrow. It is all about a law of progression in learning process. Every one who is taking the lead in academic is a committed learner. No doubt, learning is a life time journey!
1. It eliminates ignorance
2. It results in change of behaviour if the knowledge (information) acquired is applied.
3. It makes you to be relevant in the society as you update your knowledge on certain aspects of life
4. It makes you to be in a position to teach others what they do not know.
Acquisition and application of knowledge (information) through learning is vital to the learner however, it is unfortunate that learners forget so soon what they learn. Why? It is as a result of MEMORY LOSS or FORGETFULNESS. This, of course, has remained a challenge to learning process.
On this note, this book is written to provide you with information that will enable you to train, improve and maximize your MEMORY.
WHAT ACTUALLY IS MEMORY?
Simply put by the Oxford Advance Learner’s Dictionary, ‘Memory is the ability to remember’.
In my study, i came up with this definition of memory, ‘Memory is the art of learning, Keeping and retaining information learned in the conscious and sub-conscious mind and being able to call it back (recall) at will. ‘This implies that Memory is the:
– Learning of information;
– Keeping of information;
– Retaining of information; lastly
– Recalling of information.
To this end, learning, keeping, and recalling of information are the basic qualities of memory. At this point, it should be noted that the seat of memory is in the human brain.
Irrespective of the race (white or black) that you come from, the extent to which you put your brain (memory to work is what guarantees trained memory which will result in superiority Complex.
